In the Beginning…

Our farm began with a simple premise – provide wholesome, clean, nutritionally dense food for our growing family. As we set out to accomplish this task, we quickly realized that our best efforts weren’t accomplishing the goal. Being novices in farming, we began to look for answers to our problems and soon discovered that our soil health was extremely poor. My grandmother had a saying, “You can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear.” That’s just what we were trying to do.

Some Important Basics…

At the creation event, God formed man of the dust from the ground. Man was given the responsibility to manage God’s creation and to derive his nourishment from the yield the ground produced until he inevitably returned to the ground; because from it he was taken, for he is dust and to dust he shall return. It is clear that man’s connection to the soil is unique and that he has the huge task of managing it well. Soil, by definition, is an aerobically dominated organism like animals and humans. It requires oxygen, food, and moisture, just like any other aerobic life on the planet. Our understanding of the vast complexities of soil must line up more harmoniously with the intelligent design in which God set for it to operate. It is at this junction that we feel man and the ground he was tasked to manage will achieve optimal health.

The Right People at the Right Time…

In our quest for answers, we began to pray that God would help us navigate the expansive (and conflicting) amount of information available on the topic; that He would open up the right doors and take us to the right people to help us make West of Eden a testimony of restoration. Through incredible circumstances and unlikely introductions He has done (and is doing) just that. Through these doors and these experts, we have been introduced to a compilation of methodologies and techniques, products, support and services that represent a network of industry-leading and internationally known professionals with decades of experience and success. As they have embraced our vision of what this unlikely little farm in the panhandle of Florida could become, they are working alongside us to make it a reality and are helping us make these same restorative processes available to others.
